My IT Hero’s name is Corey Velan my ex-boss. This man is the smartest person I’ve ever met, and also an exceptional mentor who loved his subordinates. We were a team of 3 engineers handling a customer-base of 100,000 users, and before we came along he was actually handling all of them plus IT infrastructure and internal tools completely by himself. I will never forget the very first code review I had with him; he was following complex code that I spent a full week writing so fast, and coming up with situations where it would go wrong, that I couldn’t comprehend what he was saying. I was staring out in space, completely blank, and getting nervous for feeling incompetent. Once done, my colleague reassured me that his first experience with him was even worse.
